A series of actions had been planned during the Copenhagen summit on climate change (dubbed "COP15"), under the motto "System change, not climate change !" Their aim was to disturb or even block the official agenda and raise questions on the rationale of the mainstream debate on climate change.
The main event was a massive 100,000 people demonstration on Dec. 12, 2009 from the center of Copenhagen to the Bella Center, home of the COP15. It was preceded by a smaller one called "the Wave" in the morning.
A couple of incidents with black block members at the beginning prompted the police to isolate about a thousand people at the rear, who were subsequently arrested after 3 hours sitting in the cold with no food, water or toilet access. All but 3 were released the following day, but this "preventive", cruel and unfair treatment fuelled a polemic with the authorities.
Other actions on Friday and Sunday gathered relatively few participants (a couple of hundreds), and also resulted in undiscriminated arrests, based on a new law passed in Denmark prior to the summit.
