They denounced China's policy in Tibet and towards Tibetans, its human rights record and some advocated a boycott of the games. In the months before, demonstrations and activists' actions took place in key spots like the Chinese embassy or the Olympic Committee, but the climax of the protest was the olympic torch relay. In London and Paris especially, thousands of opponents disturbed the event, forcing the organizers to cancel part of the relay, an unpredecented move in the history of the Olympics.
